Carpet is the dominant floor covering today. In 1998 1.8 billion square yards were shipped this compares to only 97 million in 1950. Most floors in most homes and businesses are carpeted. Someone has to maintain, repair and replace these billions of yards of carpet. It might as well be you! 74.3 % of this carpet is located in residential homes and the balance is found in what is called the "contract" market, which is comprised of commercial and new construction. Carpet is very reasonably priced. Between 1950 and 1998, the price of carpet has increased by only 87%; new car prices are up 180.6%, and all commodities combined have increased in price by 285.1%. All of this combines to show a promising future for carpet and its related businesses. The chart below shows the various types of fibers that comprise the carpet market place. In addition to this, most require their carpets to be cleaned every 12 to 18 months in order to maintain their warranty.

Carpet Cleaning has an annual estimated revenue (according to a study done by Marketdata Enterprises, Inc.) of 3.5 billion dollars per year. This figure does not include carpet repair and of course carpet sales. Click here to see a comprehensive overview of the carpet maintenance business by this company.
